RT-AC88U Antenna Location Away from Physical Router

The intended location for this new router in my structure has proved unfeasible, so my present alternative is to mount the unit outside the ventilated server room. This location would be, well, ugly.

Is there a way instead to install the router in the server room and use antenna extension cables to a location that provides the best WiFi coverage? Has anyone done this? Asus support wasn't very helpful.
Which cable brand(s)? Max cable length? How to arrange antennas at the new location?

Hang it outside the server room. Hang a canvas print in front. Done.

You'll lose a lot of signal with antennae leads. Max length for optimum performance is the way it was delivered and designed by Asus.

I'd be looking for a nice image / print to use instead.


Btw, what about the original intended location is a no go?

Thank you. I discovered at the primary location an IBeam blocking the route for the cables. Hence, the alternative discussed here.

Either way you have to route a few antenna cables or one network cable and one power cable.
The antenna cable solution is no option (I agree with the earlier post: the router is not designed for remote antennas).
I can hardly imagine that there is no way to find a cable routing less then 100 meters / 300 feet long (the maximum length for Cat cable) to bring a network cable to the router and I assume power is available "everywhere".

And you talk about a server room...are there no network connections going from there to the outside world?

The IBeam issue isn't one of Cat cable run length. It's more of being able to route cables inside a wall. The network is a simple star topology.
