Unfortunately the 2.4Ghz radio in my AC88U bit the dust last weekend...Tried different FW's with reset to factory defaults, power cycle. Turn off for an hour etc.
Luckily I still had my trusty AC68U - dusted it off, installed Merlin 384.6 and back to a stable house Wifi.
I called Asus, went over the issue and what I did to resolve. They told me, yes indeed it's broken and a repair would cost $200 - price of a new router!!!
Before I toss the AC88U and wait for the next generation ASUS router - I thought of a temporary use.
I am thinking of putting the AC88U back as the main router but disable the 2.4Ghz radio. I would then plug the AC68U into the AC88U and disable the 5 Ghz radio on it. I believe I would run the AC68U in AP mode.
On the router, I run Entware and some nightly back up scripts. I also have a script that runs nightly and updates Kodi on my TV (Leia nightlys). Other than that, not too much load on the processor(s).
Comments? Should I leave the AC68U alone and wait for a new router in the future or do the double Asus thing?
