still no luck
Hi. I just signed up to these forums to say to you that i am experiencing the exact same problem. I too am on 3.0.0.4.382_18881 on my RT-AC68U. I noticed it only today when i had guests over. I would suggest that its a bug in the firmware as it has been working flawlessly prior to the update. Might be something to escalate to ASUS if you havent resolved it already

Ah, my bad.
I Google searched AC68U and it came up with this thread. Misread 88 as 68. Though there must be some similarities here or some commonality with the firmware code. Both ASUS units have been updated to the latest firmware in the last month and both are seeing the Guest access having a hidden SSID when the Private SSID on the same frequency is hidden.

I would guess that the Merlin firmware takes some elements from the ASUS firmware and has potentially copied the bug over into their firmware too.
I would suggest trying the stock ASUS firmware and see if the bug is repeated there.

Anyhoo, im far from an expert in routers or firmware

If you've gone through the debugging steps described earlier in this thread and still not been able to do it then it would appear to be a limitation of the wireless driver used in the 382 codebase. The wireless driver that Merlin uses is exactly the same as the OEM driver.

If you want the old functionally back you'd need to ask Asus. They won't classify it as a bug as that configuration was never a supported option (there's no menu option for it).
