RT-AX88U losing WIFI

Since a few weeks, my Asus RT-AX88U sometimes drops WIFI.

Usually it comes back, after reboot the router or press the wifi button twice to disable and enable it again, wifi clients see the wifi network again and connect.
I already tried different merlin firmware. Also I did reset the router and reenter all setting manuel without backup. Nothing seems to really help.

Is this a hardware issue?

What's your current setup i.e. using smartconnect or separate bands (is it 2.4ghz or 5ghz band that drop WiFi or both)? Are you using AiMesh?

When was the last time you did a factory reset? When it does drop go to System log tab-- Wireless log and check if the radios (2.4 & 5ghz) are showing up. If they're not showing or only 1 shows up, it can be a potential hardware failure.
 
My setup is rather simple.
I use separate Bands and no AiMesh.
Last factory reset was 2 weeks ago. The issues started a few weeks before.
I will try to check the wireless log next time the problem occurs.

I'm using Merlin for many year and never had problem with my settings.

Thank you will try those settings. But just to be clear. The issue is not clients dropping the wifi. The issue is the router stops the wifi signal. There is no wifi connection or wifi network sometimes. Clients not finding the SSID even if I scan for them. So its look like a wifi driver or hardware issue from the rt-ax88u.
 
After updating to latest Asuswrt-Merlin? If yes - revert to previous 386.7 version and see how it goes. There are reports of Wi-Fi issues from other forum members as well. Check the release thread.
 
Yes I think all started with 388.8 before it was rock stable. That's why I also did a factory reset but the problem is not solved. I guess it's downgrade to 388.7 too for me. Is WIFI stable for you again after downgrading?
 
Sorry, I don't have any Asus routers in use. I have a few available Asus routers used for testing purposes only and what happens after a week or two uptime - I don't know.
 
I downgraded to 388.7 last Friday. The problem has not occurred since then. There is no longer a single entry in the log saying "status: 0, reason: Unspecified reason (1), rssi:0".

Hi there.

I too am experiencing these same issues but on a new AX86U Pro.
Some of my devices are dropping connection on the wifi and re-connecting a few moments later.
Most of the devices have been connected for many many hours but a few seem to keep dropping and reconnecting such as my android phone.
My log is filled with messages such as "wlceventd" and Previous authentication no longer valid (2), rssi:-63 which coincide with the wifi drop on the device.
Has reverting back to the previous firmware still resolved your issues? If so, I may try the same.

this is being caused by mac randomization, for very particular models of android phones.

noted the S24's and 23's so far, hasn't replicated with S21's or 20's.

it may be a problem with the android dhcp client service on these models.

My Devices had no single drop after I have reverting back to the previous firmware 388.7. It's stable as it's used to be :)

Thank you for the reply.
I do have an S23 Ultra and my parter has an S24 Plus and both appear do disconnect and reconnect throughout the days.
Is it the phones or the Asus Router thats the issue?
Until last week I had the Asus RT-AC86U and dont believe we had this issue.
Is there anything i can do to stop the issue?
 
There have been no changes to the wifi drivers between 388.7 and 388.8. What you may be seeing is purely coincidental.
Point to note - myself and a few others have had to factory reset moving to the 388.8 for stability. A reset is a valid diagnostic tool.
