New Around Here
Hi,

I purchased a used Asus RT-N56U and managed to upgrade it from ancient stock FW to 3.0.0.4.374_5656-g8d0a991 (or actually any FW in Asus pages). Naturally I would like to move to Merlin FW's and this is where my problems started.

Even with firmware restoration tool from Asus or GUI, I cannot upgrade to any Merlin FW. I have tried:
RT-AC56U_378.52_0
RT-AC56U_380.61_0
RT-AC56U_3.0.0.4_376.49_5
RT-AC56U_3.0.0.4_376.45_0
RT-AC56U_3.0.0.4_376.47_0

With GUI I get "Firmware upgrade unsuccesfully. It may result from incorrect image or error transmission"

With restore tool, it cannot connect and claims router is not in recovery mode. I have set the PC IP 192.168.1.11 / 255.255.255.0 as with most instructions advise. Running out of options.

Is there a combination of Asus FW which would allow some Merlin FW? Via GUI or Restore tool?

I would appreciate some pointers to see where my issues are.
