Good to see that Merlin's firmware is used in the official Asus release!
Big hand, Merlin !!

Patched IPv6 user interface from Merlin's build.

What exactly is used from Merlin's build, is it the IPv6 Firewall part that is added?

They took the webpage I developed for the IPv6 firewall, so it would only make sense for them to have taken the rest of the code - without it, that page wouldn't do anything.

Go ahead and test it - try to reach the IPv6 of a LAN computer (not the IPv6 of the router itself).

The Firewall does seem to be there.

But upgrading to this version has broken my IPv6 (ISP Native).

I upgraded to 3.0.0.4.374.4422 earlier today, absolutely fine with no issues. I then upgraded to 3.0.0.4.374.4561 and IPv6 stopped working completely. I tried to downgraded back to 3.0.0.4.374.4422, but it still did not work.

I have since reflashed to 3.0.0.4.374.4422 again and cleared the nvram. Still no luck...

I've attached a copy of the router log.

I should also add I am getting this error in my log (every 10 secs):

Feb 21 18:00:32 radvd[497]: prefix length should be 64 for br0

I was also getting this on 3.0.0.4.374.4422, but IPv6 was working ok.

i have also ipv6 issues! my clients doesn't get a ipv6 adress

What is annoying is I pointed out the previous Beta had IPv6 issues to Asus. They have clearly ignored me, again...

At least before I could downgrade f/w and get IPv6 working again. Now I can't.

The router does not seem to get an IPv6 address itself from the looks of things.

Edit: Very strangely, my static IPv6 address for the router is pingable externally. But when I look at the IPv6 routing tables, there is no WAN address.

If your ISP is providing you with a static IPv6, I know this is something Asus is currently working on. It's possible they didn't have time to either finalize, or fully test the fix, but I know they did have made progress in this issue not long ago.

As I suspected, they did fully implement it based on what I see in the code.
I can confirm that the IPv6 firewall in firmware 3.0.0.4.374.4561 does work as expected, the IPv6 firewall is enabled by default.
I have setup a 6in4 tunnel with Hurricane Electric, this works as before.
Enabled remote desktop at one of the W7 clients, which will use port 3389.
  • IPv6 Firewall enabled, no IPv6 rules: port 3389 at the clients Temporary IPv6 Address is STLTH.
  • IPv6 Firewall diabled or adding a rule for port 3389 at the clients Temporary IPv6 Address: port 3389 at the clients Temporary IPv6 Address is OPEN.
Again some victory for Merlin to help enhancing the stock ASUS WRT firmware.

Hi

Yes, I'm getting a static IPv6 address.

Is this a problem with dnsmasq as I read somewhere there is a bug with IPv6 (I believe a similar problem has affected Linksys routers)?

I will contact Asus again to let them know, but it would be useful if they could put some kind of warning first if they know there is something might not work.

No, Asuswrt uses radvd (and rdnssd) to handle IPv6 addresses, not dnsmasq.

No need to contact them at this point. I know for a fact they are currently working on it with a Singapore ISP that had the issue. It's probably just a matter of time for them to release an update that will address this issue. If you still have issues after that, then it would be worth contacting them again, in case your issue might be a different one.

Ah ok - thanks.

It is a little weird how 3.0.0.4.374.4422 worked fine with IPv6 and a static address, yet 3.0.0.4.374.4561 did not.
