Hi
first post here, not native english speaker and not a router (wifi) expert - so bear with me
It seems, I have some sort of the anti-problem many other users have...
My Problem:
5Ghz is working fine (fast, stable) everywhere in my appartment - except in the same room (living room) as the router is in.
So when the device is the kitchen for example, it connects without problems to the 5Ghz network and has a stable and fast connection. But moving with that device into the living room, sitting maybe 3.5m away from the router with direct line of sight it loses the connection after 3 minutes. And then it can't reconnect because it doesn't "see" the network. The same if I'm turning on the device in the living room - it doesn't reach the 5 Ghz whatsoever. Moving back to the kitchen (or in another room, even bathroom further away, doens't matter which room) it receives the 5 Ghz network immidiately again and can connect without problems.
Ah, from the router to the kitchen the signal must travel around 10m, pass through 2 brickstone walls and a glass cabinet (with mirror). And there is only one other 5 Ghz network in the neighborhood (have set mine to another channel as his). We have a wireless phone in the living room, but don't those run on 2.4 Ghz? And even if it interferes with the 5 Ghz: shouldn't that create the same troubles in the other rooms too?
2.4 Ghz is working fine everywhere (inlcuding living room) with all devices. And 2.4 Ghz is really really crowded in my place - receiving 10 to 20 other networks, depending on movement in my appartment.
The devices in question are:
- a Samsung Galaxy S4
- a Samsung Tablet 10.1 (the first model, that came out some time ago)
- and also an HP-Laptop
doesn't matter which, all of them have the same issue.
My Desktop-PC in the other room next to the living room connects without troubles to the 5 Ghz.
Ah yes, the router is an Asus RT-N66U.
(I don't konw the firmware by heart, must look it up when I'm home form work)
Any suggestions / ideas?
Thank you.
