Hi,

Yesterday, I have installed an RT-N66U in access point mode.

I've connected the lan-cable from the parent router into 1 of the 4 lan ports at the back of the rt-n66u.
The wireless connection works fine.

I've read today that you have to connect the parents router-cable in the wan-port of the rt-n66u when it's configured as an access point...
Is it better to swith the connection to it's wan-port for stability, better wireless speeds,... or is the only advantage that you have 4 available ports instead of 3?

Thx

There is no technical difference between any of the 5 ports in AP mode.

The only advantage of using the WAN port for the link is the labeling. The WAN port goes towards the Internet for both your router and the AP. You know that the LAN ports can be used for local machines, but might not think that a unused WAN port could be used as a LAN port too. Not all brands of routers automatically allow that use of the WAN port in AP mode.
