New Around Here
Hello,

I have 2 RT-N66Us, the first being used as a wireless router for the past 4 years or so. The 2nd I just purchased to use as an access point and hopefully a bridge for my AV system.

My first question is, I run my CAT6 cable from the old one's LAN to the newer one's LAN as well, correct? Second, can the other 3 available LAN ports be used to connect an AV receiver and other network enabled electronics?

Also, as a bonus, can anyone provide or direct me to specific instructions on how to set this system up where I can roam freely without issue using the same SSID for both?

Thank you!!

Connect to new router. On main page click on Administration - Operation Mode - Select Access Point. You should get a page that asks you what you want to do . Assign IP or DHCP. I would use dynamic at set up, then reserve the IP Address later on your router. (or assign a static IP Address outside of your DHCP scope, or pick one at the end of your DHCP Scope. What ever is easy for you. Just make sure the IP Address is unique - correct subnet mask and correct gateway IP Address).

Connect CAT6 cable from a LAN port on your current router to AP WAN port. (Yes, you can use all the LAN ports on your AP for other devices).

Depending on your wireless clients, you may or may not be able to roam freely. You can create the same SSID names on your AP, or different ones. Just ensure you select different WIFI channels, from your current router, on your AP. The NT66U in AP mode, may have a Roaming aAsistant feature that will allow you to set a drop off point for client (so it doesn't hang on to AP forever). Some wireless tweaking will most likely be required.

I'm told by several others here at SNB that when you are in AP mode on the RT-N66U, the WAN port automagically becomes a LAN port.
