Hi,

When using the RT-N66U in Access Point (AP) mode, do I have to connect the ethernet cable (coming from the router) to
  1. the WAN connector
  2. one of the LAN connectors?
I checked all available manuals but couldn't find the answer.

In AP mode, all five ports are equal. We use the "WAN" (now really LAN) port for convenience, since we will then know if we return to a client's house for troubleshooting which cable is the feedpoint, and which are clients.

After an electrical storm, one of my LAN ports cease to function. I purchase a replacement RT-N66U and using the older unit as an AP. I'm using the WAN port on the AP to cable from a 2nd floor closet to the LAN port on the new unit, at the 1st floor. Only 3 LAN ports work on the damaged unit, but I configured a Dlink DIR-655 as a switch for extra ports which are CAT 5e cabled to the three 2nd floor Bedrooms. On the Dlink, I had to use a LAN port to connect to the AP (This 2nd floor unit is configured with the ASUS-Merlin firmware). I used the other working port on the AP to connect my Defender DVR, which has 8 cameras recording 24/7 around the house. The LAN ports on the new router are connected to the AP, Master Bedroom, SmartTV, & Blu-Ray DVD player. The wireless is setup on both units with the same SSID ID on the 2.4 & 5 signals, WiFi2G & WiFi5G, respectively.

Hi,

I vote also for 'anyone', as I have tested it with my setup where the N66U is in AP mode. :D

With kind regards

Thank you all!
