RT-N66U: Is possible to mount a remote disk on router (cifs, nfs) to download on it?

As stated in the title, I would like to know if it's possible to mount on the router a remote disk, either through CIFS/NFS or what else, to download files over it.

I own an rt-n66u (with merlin 374.43) and would like to download files on a small NAS (that I don't own: must buy it). In this way I can avoid the performance issue created by USB.

I don't own a NAS right now, but considering I like the software used to download on RT-N66U I will be ok even with a NAS that has only software to share my remote drives, so maybe I can spend less money (I'm completely out of money right now).

Is this possible? Eventually, how?

Haven't used the Asus download feature(s), so can't say if you can direct the downloads to a different location; but almost any NAS you buy will have that feature too. :)

Not the asus downloader sorry, I mean Transmission and Pyload. And yea you can choose the download path by simply editing the config file (so it would be easy to actually download on a remotely mounted disk).

What I'm not sure is if I can actually mount NFS or cifs (or anything else, don't know what else is available) on rt-n66u, that's what am I asking: is it possible?

I definitely know you can allow mounting router-connected drives (NFS server and Samba server) but I don't know if router has also NFS client and Samba client capabilities.

Not with the stock firmware.

Sorry, I definitely forgot to mention, I use your firmware. :D

SMB shares can be manually mounted - see the README included with the firmware.

I do not recommend using NFS on the RT-N66U, it's not stable.

Thanks a lot, I'm checking readme, that's perfect.
I also take advantage of the moment to thank you for the beautiful firmware (I use it extensively: ssh, entware, transmission and pyload, openvpn, etc.). You did a great job.

That's what I'm doing, running transmission on the router, downloads are saved on the HTPC-server. The only problem I have is to make sure the samba drive is mounted before transmission starts, I've solved it with a 20 second sleep, but there may be better ways.

It is possible to download on remote share. I've managed it with Rtorrent. See HERE THE TUTORIAL I MADE I do believe that similar configuration is possible with Transmission.

I am using the above configuration since the beginning of May without any issues.
