New Around Here
After 2 days of searching and reading various post i have not found the answers i need so i decided to ask. It might be a long read because i want to put in all the steps i have been through already.
Here is the story:
I just got a N66R to pair it up with my N66U to extend my wifi to the main floor and backyard. I have never had any issues with the 66U except for the fact that i dont get a good signal when im in the backyard.I set up the R in Repeater Mode using the 5ghz band and it connected and all seemed to work at first. I set the SSID of the 2.4 to the same as my main router to get the seamless switching. Then i unplugged the router brought it upstairs and plugged it back in. Got no internet...plugged in my Tablet via wire to the 66R and saw that it said AP disconnected. I figured the 5ghz wasnt making it to that location so i move it to my room which is just above the office where the main router is located. Started up the router but still nothing. Went back to the web interface and this time the AP was connected (450mpbs) but there was a red X between the AP info box and the Wifi info box. So i restarted again and this time it worked. a a few hours later i lost connection again and when i checked the red X was back. Brought it back downstairs to test it and i got the same issue of it putting a red X randomly even if the router is 2 rooms over when im downstairs.
Error i often get:
Details on the setup:
Using the Merlin 378.54.2 firmware on both routers
In repeater Mode (Admin>Operation Mode) for 66R
added DHCP reservation for N66R on main router 192.168.13.3
Main router:
5Ghz:
2.4Ghz
Questions:
1- Am i right to assume that the router is loosing connection to the main router even if it says the AP is connected but there is the red X?
2- Is Repeater mode in the Operation Mode the same as using WDS Hybrid? I ask because in WDS you cant use WPA2 yet in the Repeater Mode you can choose the 5ghz band connection that is using WPA2.
3- I have a powerLine Adapter (DHP-346av) that i maybe could use (if the connection is good) and plug the N66R to it and run in AP mode?
But the DHP is only 10/100 network jack so i was thinking this might affect devices that are connected to the n66r and are streaming content from my plex server or emby server at the same time. (hd and SD content).
4- Does using Repeater mode or WDS Hybrid cut the bandwidth in half of the 2.4 even if your using the 5ghz to establish connection between the 2 routers?
Right now im at a lost to what i should do...
