New Around Here
I just bought a Asus RT-N16 and want to use it for N only. However my roommates only have G wireless cards so I want to connect my WRT56G (Tomato) with an ethernet cable and let them use that. Do I need to setup the Tomato router any special way or will it work as is? I plan on using the stock firmware on the Asus because I really need the torrent server functions and haven't been able to find a way to make that work with Tomato. Also, will this effect the Asus' gigabit ports?

Convert the WRT to an access point and connect it to a LAN port on the ASUS. It won't affect the performance of the other switch points.
