Samba share hdd

New Around Here
Hello all,

Please excuse the lingo, I am not familiar with the correct terms.

I am having a minor issue, for which I used the search option at the forums but it yielded irrelevant results. Sorry if this has been discussed before.

I would like to be able to 'see' the whole drive as a 'samba share "folder"' and within this, the actual folders that reside in that drive, so that I can map only one 'folder' (the actual harddrive) on my windows system.

Currently under network places in windows it looks like this:
Network > RT-AC68U-1210 > all_hdd_folders_=_chaos
I am trying to make it look like the rest of my devices:
Network > RT-AC68U-1210 > e.g.TOSHIBA > all_hdd_folders

A real example of how the internal hdd on my dreambox looks in network:
Network > DM800SE > Hardisk > _folders_
...that way I can go ahead and map 'Harddisk' and assign it to a drive letter in windows.

I really hope someone is able to help me, since I tried some of the settings in the web interface, but nothing worked.

Edit: RT-AC68U, WINDOWS 8.1u1, latest merlin-wrt

Simplest method would be to simply create a single folder on the hard disk, and move all other folders inside that folder, and share that single folder. Otherwise, you will have to manually configure the share yourself through a smb.conf.add config file.

yeah I thought about creating a single folder on top of the rest, but I would prefer to avoid that if possible.

Thanks for the pointer in the right direction. Gonna see what I can do with the config file.

If your environment is tightly controlled, I think enabling guest access mode will do what you want.

Hey, sorry for the late response, I've only now had some time to tinker with the network again.

Thank you for the hint!! It did exactly what I wanted!
I don't mind the loss of authentication for accessing the share.

Thanks again.
