Setting up VLANs for IPTV using Merlin's build -

tcn

Occasional Visitor
Hi,

I am trying to understand how the VLAN for IPTV works on the router. From what I see, the WAN interface is tagged with the ID by default. It does however permit untagged traffic to go through.

IPTV setup locks ports 3 and 4 down (even if 3 is unused). It will put port 3 and 4 on two separate VLANs which are tagged also. Port 3 and 4 will not get untagged traffic.

How does it accomplish this?

The problem I have is that the STB must still communicate with the Internet on the WAN's ID, not the IPTV's id. Based on destination or type of traffic (IGMP or not), it would be nice to let traffic flow in and out of the interface.

Now, for beating myself up with DD-WRT for a few days, I will let you know that Merlin's build is the only one to properly connect to VLAN tagged PPPoE and let IPTV through. The problem is that my STB requires autentication once in a while and requires the Internet which makes it disconnect after a few minutes.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

tcn
