Setting up VPN Server questions

Occasional Visitor
Hello,
I'm running 3.0.0.4.374.39 and I'm trying to setup the VPN server. I believe I have configured it correctly (see attached screenshots), but I'm unable to connect to it from my mac at work - so *not* inside the network I'm trying to access.

I'm running Mac OS X 10.9.2 on the machine I'm connecting from and using the build in VPN options in System Preferences.

I have put in what I'm sure are the correct options (server address - I've tried the dotted quad and also the dynamic name setup for the router, username and password) but when I try and connect I get, after about 15 seconds, a dialog stating:
The PPTP-VPN server did not respond. Try reconnecting. If the problem continues, verify your settings and contact your Administrator.

Looking in the console on my iMac (that I'm connecting from), I see this:
2014-03-04 1:15:51.967 PM pppd[1582]: publish_entry SCDSet() failed: Success!
2014-03-04 1:15:51.967 PM pppd[1582]: publish_entry SCDSet() failed: Success!
2014-03-04 1:15:51.967 PM pppd[1582]: pppd 2.4.2 (Apple version 727.90.1) started by markwarren, uid 503
2014-03-04 1:15:54.549 PM pppd[1582]: PPTP connecting to server 'my-router-dynamic-name.mine.nu' (111.222.333.444)...
2014-03-04 1:16:03.153 PM pppd[1582]: PPTP connect errno = 60 Operation timed out

What am I doing incorrectly? Any help greatly appreciated.

Whilst RMerlin does not recommend PPTP, it is usually very simple to setup (hence its perceived vulnerability).

Probababy not relevent but sometimes a reboot will fix a lot of random issues.

Also, I would recommend not using MPPE=No Encryption

The most important screen shot is the server side, i.e. check the router log to ensure that your mac did actually attempt to connect to your DDNS or WAN I/P target, and that the password was correct! ;)

Regards,

Sadly it's not just a perception due to its simplicity. Its crypto is considered as being successfully cracked now.

Should I simply switch over to openVPN then? Obviously would need Tunnelblick on OS X to connect, as opposed to the built in VPN options, but if it works, it'd be worth it.

I will check the server log, by which I presume you mean System Log in the router GUI? If not, then where should I be looking
