Setup DNS to point to local IP when inside network

How can I setup my system to give out local IP-address for my Dynamic DNS URL, when inside my network?

Going to dynamic.example.com from work takes me to my server at home, but when I'm home I would like to go directly to 192.168.1.100, when I access dynamic.example.com.

Is there a way to do this or is it already done automagically?

I see the hosts file can be edited, but how do I do that?

Why don't you just use a Dynamic DNS service. That should fix your right up.

Edit: Sorry. I didn't read what you had written properly before answering. Thinking about it now... I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work.

It's done 'automagically'. The function is called NAT loopback. If you are inside your LAN and can access the resource with the DDNS name, everything is working fine.
If it appears to not be working, you can change the NAT loopback type between ASUS or Merlin in the firmware (sometimes one will work better).
