Slow internal-only wireless speed (not really a Merlin FW problem)

This isn't really a merlin FW issue, I generally don't have any problems with it on my N66U, but I do have a problem others may have some insight into.

Really slow "local" wireless access between wireless clients. I've setup different server types (samba, http) on different OS's, and no matter what, going from any wireless client to another is always slow. By slow, I mean maybe I can get 1MB/s.

Same deal with accessing the USB storage attached to the router over wireless. Thrilled to get 1MB/s.

Accessing anything external, speed test sites, etc, shows 50-60Mbps no problem.

I've reset, changed channels, etc. I can't think of what can be causing it.

Thanks!

I had a similar problem. Someone suggested disabling beamforming. I ended up switching to stock firmware and this solved the problem. Previously, my maximum wifi connection was around 150, but with stock it jumped to over 700. I have the AC56U. This was back with firmware x.42(_1)

So you're saying:

wireless client > router > internet = 50Mbps

wireless client > router > wireless client = 8Mbps

How are you measuring the speed of the client to client link?

Yes, exactly right.

Measure with wget or just watching the progress bar during a file copy. I've tried different protocols too, I thought it was maybe a windows copy problem, but even http from a linux host, same thing. Same as copying from a usb drive attached to the router.

Internal wifi slow.
External wifi fast.

Disable Jumbo Frames if you had enabled it.
Test with QoS disabled if you had enabled it.
