Is SMB 3 supported by chance or will we see that soon? I finally got around to rebuilding my external as ext4 as opposed to NTFS which solved all the mounting issues I had. Now I just have an issue with USB 3.0 speeds hanging around 35 megabytes/s as opposed to the 90 the drive is capable of. I do have 2.4GHz turned down & reducing USB 3.0 interference turned off which helped bump it from 20 to 35, but the ASUS AC-3200R tested & should be closer to the 80's. I'm also connected to the counter using a cat5e ethernet cable, & the router says I'm negotiated at 1 gigabit rate.

No. SMB3 support requires Samba 4, which is too bloated to be used in a router.

I wouldn't expect any performance gain from it anyway. SMB2 support is kept disabled by default because it actually slows down performance rather than help, since the bottleneck is the CPU, not the network. I have no reason to believe SMB3 would be any different.

That's actually valuable information. I tested SMB2 & saw about a 50% reduction of speed so I ended on SMB1/CIFS. That leaves me to figuring out why this hard drive is running so slow on the interface. I'm probably testing the data on the inside of the plate so it transfers slower. Thanks for the reply!

Make sure that the option to reduce USB 3.0 interference is disabled, under Wireless -> Professional. That option downgrades devices to USB 2.0 signaling levels.
