New Around Here
Hi,
I work as a freelance 3d professional, which means I handle a lot of CAD and other 3d files in sized ranging from 20 to 200Mb on average. Each of these files also reference texture maps in the rages of a few kb's to 250mb.
I work on a few different systems from home, and it is a nuisance for me to copy across all files with relating texturemaps whenever I need to jump onto another machine (I have 4 machines in total).
1) I want to be able to host all my projects on a central NAS drive
2) ..along with all my media files that I would like to be able to stream to my PS3.
3) I want to be able to designate certain folders as shared through FTP so that people working for me can access them securely.
4) I want to be able to access and download my files if I am working remotely from a clients office
5) ideally I would want to be able to wake up the device remotely.
6) If none of my machines at home are switched on and no one is connected to it for a set time period the drive should ideally go into power saving mode.
7)I want o get 4 - 6Tb initially, with the option of exchanging the drives for bigger ones as I go along. The quieter the unit is, the better.
I have been looking at the TeraStation III, but it lacks the remote wakeup function - I might still go for this one, but would like a second opinion my above stated needs considered! My budget would be around £750, which I guess is about $1200 or so.
Some may suggest I should get a proper server instead of a NAS, but I would really like to not have to go in this direction at this moment if possible and would prefer to hear what people would suggest in terms of NAS systems.
Any tips appreciated!
