I installed this about 5-6 weeks ago on my RT-N66U, and all has worked well during that time. I have started noticing, however, over the last week or so, LOTS of stalling web page loads and downloads. These seem to be fixed (temporarily) with a reboot of the router. Things then work fine for 12-24 hours, then start having problems, eventually followed by complete stalls of MOST (but not all) websites).

I don't know if this is due to some DNS issue (I'm using OpenDNS servers 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220).

I have NOT changed any settings after about the first week of operation, and all settings should be good (and visual checking shows them to still be the same, as near as I can tell).

Any ideas why this might be an issue? How to attempt to track down what's going on? (I've used route, and things just - stall). Change DNS servers?

Edit - might just add - this is on a WIRED connection, not wifi. Wifi exhibits same behavior, but the specific connection I'm speaking of here is WIRED to the router. Thx

Keep an eye on CPU usage and available memory on the Tools -> Sysinfo page to see if something is gradually eating at your free RAM.

Yeah, should have thought of that. I've rebooted, and jotted down the numbers and will track them through the day.

What would one normally expect for memory usage? I noted that before rebooting, I only had about 64MB free, after rebooting, had nearly 150MB free.

The amount of free memory will depend on your usage. Part of the memory gets used for caching if you have an attached USB disk for example - that cache will get freed as the router starts needing that memory for other uses.

Thought I'd update this - as they say, a watched pot never boils.

Now it won't happen. Was happening with regularity, despite weekly reboots of the router, etc. Now it doesn't appear to be happening.

*sigh*

I have had very similar problems to yours with very similar setup using OpenDNS. I then set the Asus to get DNS automatically from WAN with DHCP and the connection problems went away immediately. I have not had any connections problems for a long time now while I got cut off streaming/downloading every minute or so with OpenDNS set.

I have no idea why DNS settings would matter in this context, but they do for me at least.

OpenDNS does some naughty things. For instance, it won't return a proper NXDOMAIN reply when appropriate.

I like OpenDNS for their parental controls (until the kids learn how to set DNS).

Oh, I'm not saying it's a bad service. I truly appreciate what they offer. Just pointing out that some things might not work as expected due to how this service actually works.

One alternative I might suggest you try is the new Yandex filtering, implemented with 372.33 Beta (or 374.32 experimental builds). Asus did a really good job at offering an interface that lets you determine which PC/device you want filtered out.

Chiming in to say I've started to experience the same issue on an RT-AC66U on version 3.0.0.4.270.26

I haven't updated since that build since it was very stable up to a few days ago where every client on the network suddenly can't load any pages for 10-20 seconds; but ping still works continuously and uninterrupted.

Powercycling didn't help and router logs don't show anything unusual.

One question about Yandex filtering. Do I have to use Yandex DNS? Looks interesting. I will check it out. Thanks.

I really like Yandex.DNS! I already had my teenage kids in here complaining. Good sign! :)

Just wish they had an English interface. Very elegant implementation in the router!

Yes. Might be interesting to see a similar interface applied to OpenDNS.
