Hi all,

a few months ago I bought a DS213j and ever since I've been having problems on my Macbook Air and iMac. The problem is that when I try to view the Diskstation in Finder (the explorer) it takes quite a while loading before displaying any files or folders.

The main problem however is when I try to stream a movie from the Diskstation to VLC, there's a lag every couple of minutes. It's very annoying and I haven't been able to find a solution.

Anybody else having these problems?

BTW, view files and streaming works flawlessly on my Windows computers.

Have you tried a different format option that is more compatible with macs?

Not on WiFi, right?

Are you on the latest DSM? It has some Mavericks specific fixes. Also try SMB instead of AFP.

Not sure what you mean?

My MacBook Air is on Wifi, my iMac is wired. Both have problems.
The Windows machine is on wifi, and works perfectly.
Same goes for my PS3, btw.

Yes, latest DSM. I have tried both AFP and SMB for connecting to the NAS, same results.

At what throughput can you copy over files from an AFP share?

Copy a large file over and check the speed via DSM.

It could also be a player issue (try VLC) playing files from network shares.

My iPad works OK with Synology's apps for music, video, etc. Haven't tried SMB file/folder access (no need). But SMB does work on my Android HTC One. And my windows PCs/laptops (XP, win 7, win 8.1)

I get pretty good speeds, like 7MB/s.

I don't have many options to vlc on osx, I'm afraid
