Sudden loss of (part) of wifi on GT-AXE16000

Since yesterday half of my wifi disconnected suddenly
2.4ghz and 5ghz-1: no clients connecting anymore. I do have a very faint signal when I am with my phone within centimeters of the router.
5ghz-2 and 6ghz: still working fine.

Did not change any configs for weeks, running merlin 3004.388.8_4 for months

The -101 dbm looks strange on both radios?

Already did factory resets (using frontend and afterwards using reset button on back), reflashed same merlin firmware, tested with default settings, tested with restored jffs & prev config. All with no success :(

Did read about the malware from November, but as said I am already for months on the lastest merlin version (which should have the issue fixed), did not have symptoms like a password that was reset or no country code popups on my wifi config page.
all trend micro services off, using none of the asus services. aicloud off and with the password protection feature on since years. aicloud ports changed to non defaults.

Did the basic config borked ATE checks as described here https://www.snbforums.com/threads/malware-damaging-asus-routers.92752/page-14#post-939569 all return normal data

As mentioned; also with a freshly booted factory default the issue is there

So is my hardware failing? am I hacked? what could be the issue?
