Suggest NAS for small Business

New Around Here
Hi all,

We have small Business of Embedded Linux and ASIC design. We mostly deal with EDA tools. Most systems (around 180) 90% of them run Ubuntu/CentOS and rest microsoft windows.

We are looking for a Storage solution which can give us:

- Main use: file storage/storage of opengrid
- 2 x 2TB internal drives, with RAID 10 (Stripes set)
- low noice (would be nice, but not crucial)
- low power (would be nice, but not crucial)
- Reasonable price (Most mandate)
- Support for Linux(Ubuntu, CentOS, RHEL, Fedora) and Windows(all)
- Access via Internet (would be nice, but not crucial)

Millions of thanks in advance!

If you want RAID 10 then you need a 4 drive box.

Synology DS414 would be a good choice. 4 x 3 TB WD Red drives would give you ~6 TB on RAID 10 … Then get an external 4TB HDD to back the lot up…

For really important data you are better to have a backup offsite which you could do with a second Synology NAS.

Hi Polar,

First of all, Thanks for reply.

My budget is not that high. So I am ok with RAID 5 with 2TBx3 harddrive. Could you please suggest me NAS for with 3 HDD? Any recommendation? Western Digital/Seagate ?

* NFS support and 1Gbps x2 ethernet is must!

Synology DS414 is not widely available in Asia(India by exact), which Brand do you suggest, which could be easily available/accessible to me here(In India)?

Millions of thanks in advance! :)

Cheers,
Yogesh
