Greetings!
I'm in the market for a secondary router/AP that's primordial function will serve as a hub for network monitoring, WAN, etc.
Currently, I'm connected to Comcast 150/25 via a Zoom 16x4 modem linked to a Linksys EA7500 which has served me well for the past year, but I really want more authority over my bandwidth shaping and assign protocols to optimize my connection.
Again, it will need to:
-Control 2 laptops/2 tablets/2 phones/ 2 gaming consoles / 1 roomba
-Mainly will be hardwired or 2.4/5ghz (my EA7500 handles the bulk of wifi)
-Support 3rd party firmware. HTB+Codel
-Not a big VPN user but I'll leave that optional
-Budgeted between $150-200.
To get an idea of my objective - I have an old Linksys WRT160N V1 that I wanted to integrate into my setup and flash it, but with the 16 whopping megs of memory it has, I don't want it bogging down my connection or disrupt the flow of data. Unless someone knows a way around this? My goal is to do a generic build and finagle a bit.
I've been eyeing Mikrotik & Ubiquiti Edgerouter-X as okay offerings but I am hoping someone will chime in with their ideas. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!
