Switch before router, SSH problem

New Around Here
Hi!

I have the asus rt-n66u router and have some issues with setting up SSH.
I want the router to provide a ssh tunnel so i can surf through my home ip when i'm at work. I have read allot of threads but can't solve my problem.

The settings i use is:
Allow SSH: Yes
Allow SSH portforwarding: Yes
Service port: 22
Allow SSH access from WAN: Yes
Allow SSH password login: Yes

I can connect via SSH when i'm on my home network but not from work or other places like 3G, friends house etc. Any more options i need to enable?

The thing is that i have a switch/router device preinstalled i the hallway so the setups is Internet-> Preinstalled thing -> Asus router.
When i check my ip on myip.com i have a external ip like 213.217.*.* but in the homepage of the asus router it states an other ip, 10.0.0.1 or similar.
I think is a internal ip to the device in the hallway. My thought is that device is messing things up, do you have any clue what i can do?

I have tried to set the device ip to DMZ but no success, I've also tried to access the preinstalled device via web but it's not open for webaccess. Is there any option i the Asus router that might solve issues with multiple devices?

Kind Regards
Owe

To connect to your home network while away, you are probably better off using the vpn server. Remote ssh is more for admin'ing the router.

Yeah but at work i need access to several internal services so i just want one web browser to be connected to my homerouter. But i think i tried the PPOE VPN and it wouldn't either work if i'm remember correctly.

It sounds like this device might be a router with it's own firewall, DHCP server, etc. If so you'll be double NATing your connections. Unless you can get access to this device and configure it to do port forwarding (or put the ASUS in its DMZ) you'll never get this to work.

What is the make & model of this device?
