New Around Here
Hi All,

Im new to this forum and lucky i found this website which has given me wealth of information.

I am a small business owner and live both in the UK and Indonesia. I will need 4 Units for Back up and Replication across the sites.

Apart from that i run the office in my House in Indonesia and require the same unit for a Off site back up to another place in Indonesia and second site in the UK.

Basically i need a Nas Bos which is Reliable, Solid and Easy to setup and use. I was recommended by few Online Retailers to go for the Qnap but having noticed the synology is similar in features.

1. Priority is Back up Features, Something like a Block Level Replication so it does not use too much Bandwidth when copying files over the net to a different site.
2. Something Fast and Stable with good hardware.
3. Good Support for PS3, Streaming Music and Movies
4. Good Features so i can access the Nas from any parts of the world whilst travelling
5. Good Support with manufacture.
Which would you recommend, money is not my issue, the point here is once i invest into this system i need to make sure it will work well and reliable, stable without issues. I will be access it for data and need the data secured and backed up.

Easy choice, the QNAP TS-439 has all the features that you want and need and QNAP also performs a lot better.

Also QNAP has WOL (wake-on-lan) so you can remotely turn it on and off whenever you want or need it! And the disks in the QNAP are hot-swappable so you have NO downtime when 1 of your disks fails in the future!!! The QNAP TS-439 Pro also has much more internal memory (1GB!) than the Synology 409 (has only 512 MB). QNAP also has far more and powerful models than Synology, for instance the QNAP TS-809 can hold 8 drives and has a 2.8 GHz dualcore cpu and 2 GB memory!!! Synology has NOTHING that comes close. Also QNAP uses very strong and metal cases where Synology uses cheap plastic stuff. Like I said, very easy choice.

Think of it as follows; QNAP is like a Mercedes, Synology is more like a Hyundai.

p.s. I had to make a similar choice as you and have finally chosen for QNAP and am 200% satisfied with it ever since. I bought the QNAP TS-509 Pro Turbo NAS, it totally destroys and humiliates Synology performance wise!

For backup flexibility, you should look at NETGEAR ReadyNASes. They have the most options of any NASes and can handle backup to/from FTP, rsync and CIFS shares.
