Please provide feedback if you have first hand experience with either the Synology DS-509+ or QNAP TS-509+ as used as I intend.
The NAS will be for home use as a media server and as a central store for files I wish to have backed up with redundancy.
Looking at the specs these devices seem similar (Note: I will not being using iSCSI - so please don't mention this as a feature that the QNAP has over the other; Thanks). Because the DS-509+ is not in the charts I post here for help.
Both are at my price point.
My Concerns:
Which performs the best [read rate]|most reliable|easiest to configure.
Ease of online RAID expansion|Volume backup|Energy efficiency.
System life expectancy|Ease of Dealing with manufacturer if faulty.
If you can comment on any of these points or add a pro|con at one or the other I would greatly appreciate it. If there's a 5 bay NAS I should also consider that is hot-swappable and does online RAID expansion let me know. Thank you.
