This will be my first NAS device on my home network. I currently have a USB drive that I power-up every week or so and backup a couple of my machines.
1) Is the DS111 or DS211 overkill for what I need performance-wise?
2) Advantages of the 2-bay vs 1-bay unit? What are the advantages of a 2-bay mirrored (RAID1) setup vs a 1 bay unit that I periodically back up to another offline drive? The DS111 also has an external eSata port which gives flexibility for future expansion and speedy backups.
Primary use:
- Data backup / shares
- Media streaming
My current home network:
- Wired gigabit ethernet throughout the house
- Wireless Siimultaneous Dual band router ES3000
- Wireless b/g/n Access Point
- iMac (wired)
- Dell desktop running Linux (wired)
- mac-Mini (wired)
- Combination of Windows and Mac laptops via wireless but access to wired
- Two SONOS players (wired)
- PS3 (Wired)
- Roku XDS (wired)
Thanks
Tony
