After researching NAS boxes on google, I have narrowed my choice down to two brands. The Nas boxes I have chosen are;
Synology 209
Synology 210j
Synology 410j
Thecus N4100 Pro
Thecus M3200 Pro.

The NAS will be used for business use, for a small Graphic Design and Web Design business. I need the NAS to work on Apple Mac, and be used as a Time Machine server. It also has to run quiet, have fast read and write speeds and have an easy to use GUI. Must have RAID 1 or 5.

I really like the Synology, but I'm leaning more to the Thecus.
Anyone like to comment on which is the better brand Synology or Thecus, and as anyone used support for either brand. I would value your input, thanks.

All the NAS's mentioned will do Raid 1 and 5 apart from the 2 bay models which will only do Raid 1, and from their specs, all seem to be fairly quiet

You mention that you need fast read and write speeds, so I am assuming you will have a gigabit network between the PC's and NAS, as anything else will be the limiting factor to your speeds

Thecus quote on their web site that the 4100Pro can reach 35MB/s transfer speeds, and as the M3200 Pro seems to use the same CPU, I would assume that it has similar speeds

Synology quoted speeds are
DS209 - 87MB/s Read, and 43MB/s Write
DS210j - 59MB/s Read, 39MB/s Write
DS410j - 59MB/s Read, 29MB/s Write

If speeds are important to you, all the models chosen are not fast by today's standards, they would be listed towards the lower end of the market
If you went for any of the Synology + models, then speeds rise sharply, but will obviously cost you more

Examples from Synology's quoted figures

DS210+, 108MB/s Read, 56MB/s Write
DS710+, 106MB/s Read, 94MB/s Write
DS411+, 107MB/s Read, 103MB/s Write
DS1010+, 107MB/s Read, 102MB/s Write

The Synology's have TimeMachine support, but I cannot find any mention of this on the Thecus web site, so I am unsure whether it does support it or not
