Terastation, QNap TS, Zyxel or Synology?

New Around Here
I'm building a NAS system for a small office with the following requirements:

• 2x 2TB NAS. One located in Italy, the other in UK.
• Live full 2-directional sync/replication between them.
• Easy user access both from within the LAN (on either site) and over the internet using windows explorer and/or mac filesystem.
• Easy user access both from within the LAN (on either site) and over the internet for iOS.
• Remote admin capability.
• CCTV surveillance connectivity and storage.

As always main metrics are price and upload/download speed. I'm looking at Buffalo Terastation, Qnap TS series, Zyxel and Synology Diskstation. Has anybody with expreience of these got any advice or recommendations?

Thanks

Hi,
IMHO, go for either Qnap or Synology. I am satisfied with Synology DS713+(2x3TB)
and ext213.

Synology or QNAP. I have two Syno units, setup many QNAP ones for work. IMO, these are the best.

I 3rd that.
CCTV is best done, if more than 1 or 2 cameras, by using a dedicated CCTV DVR with a web interface. Cheaper/better is analog cams with dedicated DVR with web browser interface.
NASes can do CCTV (IP cams) but motion detecting by the NAS rather than by the camera itself is, IMO, not practical as it's too much compute time for the NAS.

I'm learning about NASes, but know a little about the surveillance stuff.

I fully agree with Stevech on the camera suggestion. Using the NAS to record surveillance camera feeds is a constant load on the unit. Using the NAS as something to provide remote access to the cameras should be kept to monitoring of the live feeds. Even then, it is processing and routing (x) video feeds.

Surveillance camera systems, if you want recording/motion detecting/alerts sent, are best as a stand-alone. More than likely it will constantly record (writing to the drive) in a commercial setting, other than warehouse monitoring. Even my home unit is constantly recording something.

Basic units will have remote monitor/playback/management features. Really basic 4 camera w/hdd for <$200 will include night vision/motion detection/remote management/alerts(email).
