New Around Here
hey SNB! so i'm thinking about switching to a new wireless router. are there any steps that i need to follow? i currently have the buffalo whr-hp-54g, if that helps. please fill me in!

Thanks.

*EDIT*
thanks for the replies but i'm not looking for router choices. i'm asking to see if there are any specific steps/procedures i need to take in order to uninstall the old router and to install the new one.

thanks guys but it looks like i was not clear in the initial post. i want to know if i have to do any type of procedures when uninstalling the old router and installing the new router. i've done enough research to narrow down my next choice.

For the smoothest changeover, set the new router LAN IP address to the same as the old one and set the wireless SSID, security and channel the same.

First shut off the old router and connect the new one to your modem.

Do the initial setup with a wired machine connected directly to the new router, set to obtain its IP address information automatically. Use this machine to check that the router is connecting to the Internet ok.

Once wired works, check that your wireless machines can connect ok. If they don't, delete the old wireless connection profile and reconnect.
