Trend Micro...talks a lot

Got NextDNS running and I was shocked at how many times Trend Micro is mentioned because I have just the AI threat Protection turned on.

I turn the filter off for just a minute every day to let it update and put the wall back up.

Tons of traffic blocked by just OISD and HaGeZi - Multi PRO++

Just putting that out there for someone that might want to know.

That URL to Trend Micro is how AiProtection is evaluating potentially malicious URLs you are visiting from your devices. Might as well turn it off
I learned something new today. I think I'll shut it off then because it's eating my free 300k queries.

But...your saying Trend evaluates every URL accessed through the router?

I think you are and I'm going to turn it off now.

Thanks

Not many people take the time to read the AiProtection notice, and the links it contains, that they agree to when enabling AiProtection. Yes, AiProtection will generally scan and collect data on every web link/IP address you visit. That information may be transmitted back to Trend Micro/Asus. Trend Micro evaluates the link/website for malware.

Depending what instructions you used to setup NextDNS, you don’t have to send the router’s local queries to NextDNS. Are you using their CLI or DoT? You can set WAN DNS to something non-NextDNS and avoid the deluge.

They give you 300K/month for a reason. It's barely enough for a single user, demo version. If you run on Asuswrt-Merlin firmware you can do what NextDNS does on the router for free using Diversion script and matching your blocklist preferences.

I like having the router separated. Diversion is great but I like a modular setup

Then use something like Pi-Hole, AdGuardHome, or similar DNS sinkhole on a separate device (Raspberry Pi or NAS, or Docker, or Mac or Windows, etc.)

I just learned how to setup Pi Hole on a Raspberry PI 3B my brother gifted me. I plan on learning Docker and setting up Pi Hole on that, too.

The modular process I'm using now is only because I want to tinker with one thing at a time in case I break something.

I did turn off those services and withdrew from the agreement on that page.
