Trouble with narrowing it down.

So I am in the market for a rack mountable NAS, and I believe I have it narrowed down to about 3 which seem to suit my needs well. What I have invisioned is to buy a 4 drive NAS, use 2 of the drives for RAID1 for critical data protection for our data server through a gigabit network connection, then use the other 2 drives as my own personal off site backup for my home PC through FTP connection, can this be done? I would also like to use it as a temporary file server for the times I need to take the main file server down, since it will already have the data on the drives correct?

I have it narrowed down to

Synology RS409
Buffalo Terrastation 3
QNAP TS-439U-SP

Can anyone make some reccomendations as I am having a hard time deciding between the 3. Any problems with what I want to set up?

Thanks!

As long as the product you are considering supports multiple volumes, then your plan should work. The QNAP and Synology do support multiple volumes. Not sure about the Buffalo...I'll check.

thank you, from my understanding the Buffalo Terrastation 3 is the lowest performer of the group, so if they are all able to do what I want I guess it comes down to performance vs price.

I have priced them out to all within a few dollars, so I guess I should go with the best performer of the group which seems to be the QNAP TS-439U-SP, does this come with the kit to attach it to the rack do you know? I noticed with the synology RS409 you had to purchase the rail kit seperatly to attach it to you rack.

And thanks for your help!

Picture on Newegg seems to show sliding rails and brackets are included.

BTW, Buffalo just replied that the Terastations do support multiple volumes.

One final question, the TS-439U-SP is basically a rack mount version of the QNAP T5-439 Pro thats rated quite highly?
