TS-110 and Jumbo frames

Hi There,

Been having a bit a of a nightmare with trying to get jumbo frames up and running with my TS-110 and would appreciate some assistance.

I have a Netgear GS105 switch with jumbo frame support and have tried alligning the frame sizes on Windows 7/Server2008R2 clients with both vNICs and physical (intel and realtek) to the 4074 and 9014 frame sizes on the QNAP.

1500= all ok - write 10-20MB , read 35MB
4k = writes ~ 5MB read ~7MB
9k = leaves the NAS unaccessible.

Windows - Windows performance is ~100MB/sec.

Suggestions appreciated.

Well Im guessing there isnt an answer to this. Buyer beware if you think youre going to be able to use jumbo frames with this unit and be very wary of some of the performance reports you may read.

Also posted on the QNAP forum with no response.

I haven't played with jumbo frames too much but from what I recall it was best to reset every piece of hardware that jumbo frames was enabled on. So the TS-110, switch, and Windows 7/Server 08 clients all might need to be reset to ensure proper configuration. Other than that all I could suggest is that you double check all the devices you are using have the same size jumbo frames enabled.

Thanks for the response, I gave up after reading that other users were having the same issues.

Fortunately the new 3.4 beta2 firmware gave the unit a considerable bump in speed (up to 34MB/s write), even with a frame size mismatch, allowing me to backup in a more resonable timeframe.

At least my unit was cheap, a couple of mates are having constant iSCSI dropouts on their considerably more expensive atom units.
