Unable to connect some devices to asus-merlin RT-N66U

New Around Here
I updated my router to asus-merlin latest build 380.69_2 for the asus RT-N66U. Almost all devices connected fine except one. It just will not connect to the router with the correct password. :-( I had to put the old router back. I have reset the device and tried again. It just refuses to connect with the asus-merlin router. Is there any settings on the 2.4Ghz that can possibly prevent some devices from connecting even with the correct password? I really want to use this build but can not if this device can not connect. Any help would be appreciated.

Is the device that won't connect an older device? Did you change the SSID between the old router and the new? Could setup the Guest access on the router to see if the device that won't connect does connect to the Guest network.

I swapped out an old DD-WRT router with a ASUS RT-N66U. I kept the network name the same and same password. All the devices reconnected except this one. It just will not connect. I reset it and tried again to no end. Just refuses to connect to the router. I will try the guest network and see if that works. But it is strange that all other devices work except this one. It is a new device that has been on the marked for a year only. So not old. It had no trouble connecting the the same router but with the original asus firmware.

Had the occasional problem with iPhones not connecting, usually clearing the network settings on the phone makes it able to reconnect to the router. Might be some setting that the old router set on the device that is causing it to not reconnect, using a different SSID "should" usually do the trick as well.

Considering that you used the same SSID and password, your client is probably trying to grab its previous IP address that it had on the old router, while the new router is trying to give it a new IP. If you have some type of security software, it is possible it is flagging the SSID as a Fake AP.

Solution 1, make a DHCP reservation with the old IP the device had if you know it

Solution 2, change the SSID or password and see if the old device connect.

I have had this happen a few time's and usually solution 1 solved it for me, as the client was trying to keep its same IP.

I find often that changing the wifi channel to a less congested one works to get a network connection back. Site survey should list the channels that other wifi devices around you are using.
