New Around Here
Hello, I am using Tailscale as a VPN to my router, which is running Unbound. When I use my router as an exit node, the DNS address is shown to be those of 9.9.9.9, which I have as my WAN DNS. This behavior demonstrated with the setting "use local cache as system resolver" off. However, if I turn on "Wan: Use local caching DNS server as system resolver", my Tailscale will show my DNS server as that of my router, which is the effect I am desired to reach. I have read several forum posts here by developers that warn to turn off this setting, as it may impact certain aspects of the router. One of those might be the NTP Server, however I am using the AMTM NTP server software, and routing all traffic through there. I am wondering what the potential adverse effects would be if I were to leave this setting on. And would this setting mean Unbound is acting as the system resolver, therefore further eliminating reliance on third party DNS?
