Going back to the original question by @Martineau. Security is a difficult question to answer if one is only considering Unbound. It is all about layers which may include various technologies. For its part Unbound is a secure solution but like with everything people need to understand the limitations. From the security point of view is Unbound running locally on your router less secure than Quad or Google? All support DNSSEC technology.

Now, if one is looking for pure performance, your local Unbound on the router cannot possibly compete with external DNS servers in some situations and it will depend in large on your browsing habits. I think @Martineau is thinking of the best way to build new easy menu. These questions are very valid to consider, what is most important? I think there should be a choice and users must decide what they want. Having choice is a good thing.

Well the main thing I would change is the Readability of the Easy Menu.. That is the obstacle I see causing an issue. Maybe make it more user friendly as users could get confused with how the options a presented or selected. Unbound itself is pretty straight forward, I don't see any issues with its present setup from unbound manager stand point.

Playing around with a new graph showing the ad blocked domains (similar to uiDivStats). Curious if this is useful or not?

I think the same would work for all queries but may impact performance because logging needs to be enabled. I think with syslog-ng the impact should be smaller, because it provides a memory buffer. The graph above has a minimal impact since using log-local-actions only writes out the "failed" lookups because they are blocked, which should be minimal.

Hi everyone,
I am posting here because this is happening to me since I've installed Unbound on my router - AC86U. My wifi connection keeps disconnecting for short period of times ... and i think is only the 2.4Ghz devices .... Any thoughts?
Thank you.

Are you using a USB stick in the 3.0 port in USB 3.0 mode? Try changing it to USB 2.0 mode instead.

Nop. it's in in the USB 2.0 slot ... had it before in that configuration and the stick used to disconnect quite often ...

You may want to put it into the USB 3.0 port in USB 2.0 mode then. ;)

--- edit ----

I have it working on "replies" too, but since we use dnsmasq, the client is always 127.0.0.1, so can do a top 10 list, but not a per client list.

:) Touche ... I'll do it in a sec .. Cheers
Done it ... and it was ok until this morning when I tried to have a look at the statistics tab. For some reason I can't see DNS and Performance Histogram- says requires extended statistics enabled. Another thing I observed the help&support tab doesn't work - gives 404 error.
So, I went into unbound menu trying to find the extended statistic command - for some reason I can't find it under Unbound advanced tools. I run -sa and then i copied the ip address with the user3.a extension to see what happens there. Put the ling in the browser and it gives me the 404 error and my connection gets disconnected and after the router menu become highly unresponsive when I try to navigate the router tabs and my connection keeps disconnecting - wifi one. I just need to keep refreshing the browser to make it work. I know it sounds a bit strange but when the tab with help&support under unbound menu gives me 404 erro everything seems to work fine - if I make that work(don't know exactly how - it seems is related with enabling or generating statistics from unbound advanced menu) the router becomes unresponsive and throws the error sayin thet the 192.268 .... took to long to respond .....
I've noticed the wired devices are ok.
As a mention: now I am running UnBound and Skynet.
Any ideas?
Thank you for reading this :)

If extended-stats is ENABLED, it should say so highlighted in green (see the 's' menu bottom right below), if it isn't then it will simply say 'Show unbound statistics'

Command 's-' turns extended-stats OFF; 's+' turns it ON, but 'sgui' will automatically issue 's+' on your behalf.

I suggest you try to refresh the unbound Graphical GUI TAB
Code:
sgui uninstall

sgui

I tried but i still end up with the same issue. For some reason wired devices and 5GHz connections won't drop. It seems only 2.4GHz ones ...

I thought we laid this to rest, but I don't know why- My unbound is validating stuff that it didn't a week ago.
I remember a couple of rows use to be yellow.:eek::eek:

Hi,
As an update: I disabled unbound over the next day or so and had no more issues with my wifi being disconnected.
I'll do again a fresh install of Merlin and I will try this time to install unbound without the sgui interface. I think this is somehow related with this.
If you have any other suggestion please feel free to Express yourself

@Amwjujo you may want to follow the M&M Config guide in the link in my signature below. Be sure to also use the 'Initialize all settings...' checkbox too before you hit the Restore button.

You may also consider formatting your current USB drive running amtm before you put it back into the router. Afterward, do a clean install of the amtm scripts you are using. You may want to follow some of the steps in the amtm Step-by-Step guide in the same link too.

There are no issues normally with sgui enabled in Unbound. I hope this good/known state will give you that stability too. :)
