New Around Here
I have been using and performing as needed all the upgrades for an old CISCO Small Business RVS4000 Router/Firewall, which is now coming to a closure for support. It has always perform great with no issues. Question is, should one upgrade due to age as well as support even if there has been no issues for many years. Time does fly when there is no trouble to be concern with.
Thanks
Hap

Is this for business or home use? If it is home use I would not replace it if you don't want to spend the money now. Eventually you would want to replace it if they stop making updates for it. If your talking a business I would probably be looking to get a new device within three months of your current device going EOL.

There's a lot of Cisco gear that's still in production use well after End of Life/End of Support - the major issue with being EoS is that anything happens, you're on your own, and any licenses (if needed) won't be renewed...

Might consider an EdgeRouter or MicroTik to replace it, depending on needs...

its really easy to decide, if you need support than upgrade otherwise stick with what you have until you need something that it cant provide.

If support isnt an issue and you need performance mikrotik can provide that, otherwise there are other brands other than cisco that provide good support but only few and they usually specialise in areas such as vpn bonding and that sort. As long as you avoid cisco rv or similar business platforms you will be fine as they dont offer anything that good consumer routers like asus already offer.

Abailey, Home User only,
SFX2000, thank you,
System Error Message, My guess, the only thing to worry about are the signature updates
