Update Notification

If I put Merlin's firmware on my new RT-AC68U, how does the firmware update notification feature in the GUI work from that point forward? Does it still work at all and if so, does it notify available updates for Merlin's firmware or the stock firmware?

Whereabouts, in the GUI, is this? Not having come across it before, either in the GUI or the forum, I looked in Administration> Firmware Upgrade but cannot see anything.

Maybe I've imagined it, but I thought it either appeared as an icon at the top of the GUI or else as a message on the system pages (in yellow). I'm not running Asus or Merlin firmware at the moment, so I can't check. If I come across it I'll post an update.

There is no notifications for new fw if you are on Merlin firmware

I think it was the icon shown in the screenshot that I was thinking of. I've just received my new RT-AC68U and I'm impressed with all the new options in the firmware. I've flashed it with Merlin's latest build and configured most of the settings, ready for connecting to the Internet tomorrow.

OK, thanks. That's no problem as I have Website watcher and I've set it to check the download site once a day for changes, at a time when I've usually got my PC switched on.

You will see this icon only on the official asus fw.And for Merlin FW , no need to check every days
He got a life :), once/week or month is enough

You can follow is work and know when a release is close

https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin
I only set once a day because if I set it for longer periods, I might not happen to have my PC switched on at the relevant day. It's a pity Website Watcher doesn't, as far as I know, have a feature to check missed schedules, but I'll try to obtain a definitive answer to that from the developer and if it does, I'll maybe change it to check once a month instead.

Here's the answer to my Website Watcher query, in light of which I have now set checking to once every 30 days:-

Watcher performs the check when I next switch on my PC or is the missed autowatch schedule lost?

This depends on your configuration. If you only have the "Check every
7 days" configuration, then WebSite-Watcher should check it as soon as
possible.

If you have also configured certain days, eg. only on Monday and you
check the bookmark on Tuesday, then you will have to wait til next
monday.
