The frustrating part is that I managed to do it with the 384.11.2 update.I think I used WinZip to to uncompress the file but the free trial has ended and I won't really use it enough to warrant a purchase. When my better half gets off facebook I'll poke around again and I'll get there in the end.I am positive about that because I'll be buggered if I let technology beat meIs it a Windows Surface tablet??![]()
Pretty sure Windows comes with a native zip application so you shouldn't need winzip. If you prefer one or don't like it you could try winrar. The frustrating part is that I managed to do it with the 384.11.2 update.I think I used WinZip to to uncompress the file but the free trial has ended and I won't really use it enough to warrant a purchase. When my better half gets off facebook I'll poke around again and I'll get there in the end.I am positive about that because I'll be buggered if I let technology beat me
May I be so bold as to state that based on your level of expertise, running a beta of anything may not be in your best interests? When you are struggling with computer basics such as zip files, running software (or in this case firmware) that may introduce issues and instability that can be difficult for seasoned professionals to deal with. Unless there is some specific feature that is absolutely critical, I'd suggest using the last stable release or wait for the next one.I know I have asked this before but I can't find where the answer / help is.I am having trouble unzipping the latest Merlin beta firmware can someone please explain how to do it again .I use a Windows 10 PC.thanks again guys
If you can right click (tap?) on the zip file to get the popup menu, there should be an "Extract All..." option which will invoke the native windows unzip function. If you uninstall WinZip, Windows can take "ownership" of zip files again and probably avoid future confusion. The frustrating part is that I managed to do it with the 384.11.2 update.I think I used WinZip to to uncompress the file but the free trial has ended and I won't really use it enough to warrant a purchase. When my better half gets off facebook I'll poke around again and I'll get there in the end.I am positive about that because I'll be buggered if I let technology beat me
Oh OK I noticed a post from Merlin that 384.12.1 beta was ready and assumed it was stable. So if it still has beta in the title it's for people who are confident within themselves to use and more or less test.Does that make sense? And when it's ready for the general public, and old newbie's like myself, it will read 384.12.1 without the beta in the title.Does that sound right? If so then yes I will wait and practice on unzipping files in the meantime.I don't really have any issues that I thought the download would address I just like tinkering and learning new stuffMay I be so bold as to state that based on your level of expertise, running a beta of anything may not be in your best interests? Yes, you'll see a post by Merlin with the subject "[Release] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.12 is available". Probably in a couple weeks or so.And when it's ready for the general public, and old newbie's like myself, it will read 384.12.1 without the beta in the title.Does that sound right?
Once you've got the .trx file unzipped, go to your router at http://192.168.1.1/Advanced_FirmwareUpgrade_Content.asp and you'll see the New Firmware File section to Browse for the file and upload to the router to trigger the upgrade process when the final 384.12 release is available.I more or less know how to unzip a file but when I get to the unzip part it just doesn't appear on my router page in obviously missing one step but ill get there
Ok I will but I think I'll be OK from here uninstalling WinZip and using the Windows one instead did the trick but I will take"dosborne,s" advise and wait.I am happy with 384.11.2 so I am not in a rush and will be ready this time so thanks again guys you are all great.Ps I do love tinkering even though it has got me in trouble before I can't help myselfYes, you'll see a post by Merlin with the subject "[Release] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.12 is available".
