Upgrade from AX88U to BE98

Be sure to come back and tell us how you get on with it. I'd like to know as a very satisfied AXE16000 user
I will. I got it so cheap it would be wrong not to take it, less than 100€ it looks like new bearly used, still under warranty.

I'll try first latest stock firmware and see how it goes for few weeks with stock. Then I'll will flash merlin's fw.

This router is 2022 model and locked on 3004 firmware as you already know, but the price of this used one is suspiciously low... like "want to get rid of it" low. Definitely make sure you don't bring home someone else's trouble. Stock firmware for some time is a good plan.

It's working without any problem, test it fully. I don't mind if it's stuck on 3004. As I read somewhere that asus is making 3006 for it that it's in beta or maybe those were just rumors...Will see in close future maybe there will be 3006 for it.

Yeah, 10-15 years back, I used to tinker with my routers and things. But these days, I'm older and my network needs to be as solid as I can get it since internet provides most things in my household. TV, music, gaming, etc. Without that, things would get boring real quick. So if the AXE16000 on stuck on the 3004 FW permanently, sad, but understandable. It's solid and works.

I read in the official ASUS FW section that there was a AXE16000 3006 FW in beta, but there's not been more since. Maybe they're having issues with getting the whole thing stable. According to Merlin, there's a lot of work to be done for it to come to the current models, so it's on just a few Wifi 7 models for now and any future machines. Keep your fingers crossed, eh?

Same here.

Hope so yeah!

For now as I tested it. Wifi signal is much better on AXE1600 than AX88U. Same position, same settings. Stock FW. CPU and Mem. handles stuff waaaay much better on this router than on AX88U. Waiting for my ISP to connect 2.5Gb internet to see speed, now 1/500Mb it gives full speed on 6Ghz and 5Ghz no problem there. I disable 5Ghz_2 don't need two of them, didn't test yet which is stronger but I assume 1 is. 5Ghz is even stronger on this router where I didn't have or was losing internet now I can browse without any problem even on 1 bar.

Test again and hopefully yours doesn't have this issue:

Will do, and post back as soon as new speed and optic arrive.
