Upload to new router?

I am upgrading the main router from AX3000 to an AXE11000.
Can I upload the AX3000 saved file to the AXE11000, giving me a quick start, then massage some of the new and old settings?
Or, will it bonk the whole thing?
(The 11K is already on the latest Merlin.)

I wouldn't advise it. The hardware of each model is completely different from the other. Even though it would probably work superficially, every time you think you might have a issue you'd be wondering whether it's because you imported the old config file. Save yourself time and peace of mind in the long term by setting the new router up from scratch.

If you need to transfer over specific settings, like DHCP reservations, there are easy ways to do that. You can also use your mobile phone to take pictures of things like Wi-Fi settings.

There have been a number of past discussions (use the forum search feature) on attempting to use a saved configuration file from one Asus router model and importing it to another different Asus router model. Opinions are mixed. It might work. It might not. One may have issues crop up that could take time to track down and fix. Many simply suggest configuring the new Asus router model from scratch rather than take the potential or possible risk.
RMerlin's (Asus-Merlin) previous take on it:
There are actually differences there in the nvram values based on the hardware platform. Radio intertaces for instance will be different between some models. Restauring configurations from a different model means you will have the wrong network interfaces configured for these wifi radios. The WAN interface is also different, there's one model that uses eth5 instead of eth0.

Do not copy configs between different models, it will cause all sort of issues depending on which model is being copied to which.

The firmware also has different default configuration values defined at compile time based on the model being compiled.

Try it. If things work fine then great, if not then restart manually from a factory reset.

Thank you all, I'll take RMerlin's advice. I want to minimize workload and get it up and running without issue.
😁

This may work well on stock Asuswrt only, not recommended on Asuswrt-Merlin. This is Asuswrt save/restore tool.

Recent save/restore testing:

Again - Asuswrt only and if things go wrong - reset and configure manually as per Asus own FAQ. Simple configuration - do it manually.

generally works fine on merlin, including jfss restoration. the firmware will initialize any values not present in the restored firmware to their defaults

your main concern is restoring to an nvram smaller than the nvram the settings file it came from.
