I am thinking of upgrading my main router and would like to use my current router (DIR-655) if I do this upgrade in my office to replace my current wireless bridge......is this possible? If so how would I set the DIR-655 up as a bridge to access the new router?

The DIR-655 doesn't support bridging/repeating and there are no alternative distros for it that might enable the feature.

You can use it as an access point, but not as a bridge.
