Users can't reconnect to RT-AC66U guest network

New Around Here
Edit: it isn't a RT-AC66U but a RT-AC68U

I enabled a 2.4 and 5 Ghz guest network on our RT-AC68U wifi router (password protected), on this way I can offer the guests in our little museum free internet.

I've set some QoS rules, Websurf has high priority, HTTPS and file transfer has the lowest priority. On busy days over 60 people are connected at once, with the QoS rules I hope that the connection always stays fast enough for the normal websites. Free internet for a quick surf, and not for non-stop candy crush ;)

The guest network is online for over a week now, it worked very fine till yesterday. The problem now is when many users are connected and an user that was connected before try to reconnect, he/she get stuck at retrieving the IP address.
To solve this I found out that I can change the IP address (last digits) on the user's device or reboot the router. Both temporarily solutions off course.

I'm not very technical, but it seems to me that because of the many connected users at once the IP address generating/publishing system doesn't work very well anymore. Once connected the connection is very stable, reconnecting is causing problems, specially when there're many users connected. I guess rebooting the system flushes all the saved IP/user information.

Does someone have a suggestion how to solve these reconnecting issues using the router settings. Is it possible that the QoS rules have something to do with this? The QoS is the only thing I changed before putting the guest network online.

Kind regards,

Peter Vries

I don't think I can offer much advice on this as it also looks strange to me, but have you tested for a while with disabling the QoS completely and then see if it behaves that way too? If so, at least you can rule out the QoS and blame more the DHCP
