Virtual Machine Port Forwarding Issues

mxeryz125

New Around Here
I have searched through these forums and did not find a similar issue to the one I am having (if I have missed, sorry!).

I recently bought a refurb ac66r and have issues when port forwarding to a virtual machine. I have a host running VMware with an ubuntu VM running, serving various applications. The host OS and ubuntu have a different IP (Virtual NIC set to Bridged (typo!)). I am having issues port forwarding to the ubuntu VM, not getting any ports to go through actually. I know they are listening because I can connect without issue to the box in network on said ports. I have had a RT-N16 running tomato for years now and have had no issues forwarding.

Running Merlin: 3.0.0.4.374.42_0

Example Port Forwarding:

Destination Proto. Port range Redirect to Local port Chain
ALL TCP 9987 10.0.0.63 9987 VSERVER
ALL UDP 9987 10.0.0.63 9987 VSERVER

Does anyone else have a similar issue or do you think I got a bad refurb?

Your VM will need to be bridged for port forwarding to work. If you set the VM's network interface to NAT, then you will be essentially firewalling it from the rest of your network.

anyone else running into this or have a similar setup that works? This is the second router received through RMA that has the same issue. Is this a limitation of the firmware, or maybe I am missing something.

Destination Proto. Port range Redirect to Local port Chain
ALL TCP 9987 10.0.0.80 9987 VSERVER
ALL UDP 9987 10.0.0.80 9987 VSERVER

VM Virtual NIC set to bridged. I can access that port without issue inside of the firewall.
