I’m looking at buying the GS108T. I want segregate my different function devices to make them more efficient.
VLAN1 will get its IP address from Router.
VLAN2, VLAN3 will get its IP address from either DHCP or it will be static depending on the role of the device.
VLAN4 would be static ONLY.
VLAN type VLAN Port Types of Devices
Router _DHCP VLAN1 Port1 Internet
1GB –JUMBO VLAN1 Port2 iSCSI, High End Servers, NAS, Internal DNS
1GB – Non JUMBO VLAN2 Port3 Low End Server and workstations
1GB – Non JUMBO VLAN2 Port4 Low End Server and workstations
100MB VLAN3 Port5 Workstations, WAP, and Printer Servers
100MB VLAN3 Port6 Workstations, WAP, and Printer Servers
VoIP VLAN4 Port7 Voice adapter

I need all the VLANs to talk to the internet. But I only need VLAN2 and VLAN3 to talk to VLAN4.

Would this be possible with this device?
How would this be configured? Is this the best way to get the best performance?
What would I need to tag or un-tag the VLANs?
How would Jumbo be handled?
Currently I have a flat network with 100MB switches and 1GB switches. So, if I enable JUMBO and flow control my net performance goes down because of the 100MB and/or the NON-Jumbo devices. So, I cannot utilize the 1GB throughput. I want to know if I’m going in the right direction with this.

Thank you for your help and your advice.

Thank you,

Joe

This isn't a "layer 2/3" question, but a VLAN configuration question.

See http://smallnetbuilder.com/lanwan/lanwan-howto/30071-vlan-how-to-segmenting-a-small-lan.

You only need VLAN tagging when you are using VLANs across multiple switches.

Jumbo frames will be handled automatically once you enable them in the switch.

See http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/lanwan/lanwan-features/30212-when-flow-control-is-not-a-good-thing for info on flow control. 100 Mbps devices will slow Gigabit devices only when a Gigabit device is communicating with both simultaneously.

Thiggins,
Thank you for replying back to me. Can I still us Jumbo without flow control? I would just use the smart switch to manage the Jumbo packets between the vlan than can and cannot handle them. Is the correct?
Thank you for your time.

Jumbo packets and flow control have nothing to do with each other.

The GS108T just has a global jumbo packet enable for all ports and is independent of VLAN.

This would still manage the jumbo packets to then non-jumbo Vlans. I'm trying to sperate the Jumbo device from the non-jumbo. So, if this is a global setting with I have 1GB devices on a sperate Vlan I would have this setting disabled Globally. Correct? SO, the SMART Switch would handle the what the packet should be. If I enabled this the VLAN at 1GB my recieve (or poor performance) it is allow the Jumbo packets to flow throught the ports(vlans). Am I getting this correct? Sorry for all of the questions. I just want to make sure that I'm unstanding if I will benifit from this before I invest.
