Anyone have a recommendation for a VPN provider that plays well with Merlin firmware? Looking for OpenVPN compatibility and fast speeds in the US. We run a mix of Windows, Apple products (Mac OS and iOS), Linux, Android...a little of everything. Having multiple simultaneous connections is also desired...either through the router (68U) or when traveling remotely.

In addition to a VPN provider, what OpenVPN connection speed do you think the 68U can sustain? I currently have a 100 down and 40 up connection.

Also, will I also be able to specify specific IP addresses in my network to use WAN connection instead of VPN? We use Netflix here and it doesn't seem to like VPN connections.

Thanks in advance.

I've been using StrongVPN with great success... OpenVPN has decent speeds. My regular broadband speed goes up to 150 down/25 up, and when using VPN, I get about 50-70Mbit down and 25 up. Similar setup as you... I have a mix of clients on the router side, and have created some exceptions for our TV so that it goes across the WAN instead of the VPN using Merlin's split-tunneling feature as the Netflix issue does creep up at times. StrongVPN does have an android client, but I use a different 3rd party OpenVPN client on my mobile device that has much better features... called "OpenVPN for Android", and simply apply the .ovpn file to it that you would also use to configure your router or other clients.

Let me know if you have any questions... been around the block on this one these last couple of weeks. ;)

I use TorGuard. They offer a private IP service that enables me to get around VPN blocks put in place by two major media streaming services. They have client apps for Android, iOS, Windows, Macs and support Stock ASUS, ASUS Merlin, Tomato, pfSense and DD-WRT. I can enter the server IP address or dns name in the web gui. I wrote instructions on how to configure for ASUS Merlin and posted them in the VPN forum if you want to take a look.

This is accurate. I use TorGuard as well, however the processing power of your ac68u wont give you much more than 15meg down and 10meg up. (using stats from my own 50meg 10 meg isp connection). The reason; the little dual core just can't do it and all the other tasks a network asks of it. I'm afraid you want download speeds and upload speeds in excess of your routers capabilities. That being said all my streaming needs are met just fine and none of my location information revealed.
