I am enjoying my AC66U with Merlin's software (.45 build) and have had a PPTP VPN server in action for some months. My plan is to move to a more secure type of VPN before opening up my home network for remote access.
Partly because I like a project, and partly to avoid loading up the '66, I decided to use a separate single board computer (RPi) to run the new VPN server on. I have tried both L2TP/IPSEC and OpenVPN and, so far, have failed to achieve a connection. Even worse, I cant see any sign in the RPi or '66 logs that a connection is being rejected - its as though my client is shouting to itself in the fog
I have the relevant port forward settings for OpenVPN and L2TP/IPSEC on WAN>Port Forward and all the VPN protocols enabled on WAN>NAT Passthrough (except ppoe). Even opening up the DMZ for my RPi didnt help.
Its perfectly possible that there is something stupid in my configuration somewhere, but I am 99.9% certain some traffic should be getting to the right internet IP and the '66, especially as I have a fixed address. What I would appreciate from the members here is any help with the following specifics:
1. Can anybody confirm that inbound OpenVPN traffic will pass through the '66?
2. Are there any more detailed log files inside the '66 that might tell me about any traffic that is being rejected?
3. If the answer to 2 is yes, I can access the '66 via SSH/putty, but is there a description or list somewhere of any available tools for exploring or exporting the logs? (I had a quick look at /var/log with vi but it seemed to be blank and the system told me it was "not a normal file")
Thanks for reading.
