Wake on Lan my NAS with RT-AC66U

Hello,

I just got my new NAS (Synology DS213j) and want to wake it up with Wake on Lan, when I want to connect to my NAS.

Is it possible to do following?:

• If the NAS is not in use, it has to sleep to save energy.
• If I access my NAS, my Asus RT-AC66U should wake it up.

The NAS will be accessed from different devices, a Windows computer and XBMC.

The best thing would be, if my Asus RT-AC66U would be able to send the Wake on Lan Port 9 to the NAS automatically, if I want to access my NAS from any of my devices.

My Asus RT-AC66U has installed the newest firmware of RMerlin, Asuswrt-Merlin 3.0.0.4.354.29 Beta 1.

I'd be really happy if someone could help me.

The router has no way of knowing you are trying to access the NAS. LAN connection go through the switch, they are never even processed by the firmware.

Is there something simple to start my NAS automatically if my HTPC is starting (A startup program for Windows or XMBC which is able to send a WOL package maybe)?
Also, is there any App for WOL you would recommend?

Edit: I'll use the DS Finder app from Synology, it's all I need, just not automated.

This is a different approach, but your DS213j had the ability to put the hard drives in hibernation which greatly reduces power consumption. Also, you can create a custom power schedule. All of this can be done via the web gui in Control Panel/Hardware.
